Its hard to believe, but we've been a Homestay Family for over 20 years now!  Our first Homestay guest (student) was a 14 year old girl from Japan who was with us for 2 weeks - classes and activities during the day and time with us evenings and weekends.  Since then we've had:

  • About 10 students from Japan, doing the 2 week class trips

  • Several students from Quebec who were involved in a Canadian government program that had late teen/young adults go from Quebec to Alberta and vice versa for 6 weeks of immersion - classes and Homestay time.

  • Students from several organizations who were with their Host Families for a week or less

  • 'Academic year' students - from Cultural Homestay International (I was a Coordinator) and School District 68 here in Nanaimo

  • College students from Lethbridge Community College and university students from the University of Lethbridge - most taking ESL CLASSES

  • Many guests have come to us through WWOOF and Help Exchange

And we've had several guests come directly to us for Homestay and Homestay Tutoring after finding us on the the web

What countries have we had guests from?

  • Japan - many students - mostly girls but a few boys - form a weekend to over a year

  • Thailand - our youngest student, Richard was 11 when he came to us, and was with us for his Grade 7 and 8

  • China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan

  • Mexico - both girls and boys, from 12 to 16

  • Venezuela

  • Brazil

  • Britain:  Scotland, Ireland, England !

  • Australia

  • Europe:  Germany (at least 8), Spain, Switzerland, Austria, France

  • Canada!  Quebec and the NWT

I've probably forgotten a country!

We are the McCUBBIN FAMILY...your Hosts at CedarHill Homestay!

GRANT - works at a building supply business. he Manager.  Grant enjoys dog-walks, hiking, tennis, fishing, reading, and working in the shop/yard.

CHRISTINE - enjoys reading, exploring the East Kootenays,  crafts, being a Homestay Parent and more.

We moved to Cranbrook from Nanaimo (on Vancouver Island) fall of 2016 to be closer to our adult children, who now live in SW Alberta. Both of our kids are very 'outdoorsy'!

Right now we just have one pet - a 12 year old rather overweight black cat called Bandit. Our beloved black Lab Kasia died of cancer almost a year ago - we are looking for just the right puppy/young dog to be our next canine companion.

We've hosted guests - mostly International students - for well over 20 years, and really enjoy the experience!
